Fourfoursixsix were engaged as design architect and interior designer for the renovation of two separate nine storey apartment buildings into a unified, 198 Key hotel development. The existing structure required a lightweight exterior cladding solution and an interior design response that boldly highlighted the nature of the refurbishment.

The façade design provides a cost-effective solution that minimises the overall percentage of glazing to limit overheating and improving energy efficiency.

The interior design creates a transparent dialogue with the original structure of the building whilst providing an interesting counterpoint through the insertion of clean, modern elements to juxtapose the exposed existing structure. A simple material palette and a series of open-plan, interconnecting spaces provide the basis of the main front of house elements within the scheme.
