The Surya Hotel

The Surya is a boutique hotel located on pristine beachfront in Tangalle, Southern Sri Lanka. The hotel consists of just 10 keys and encapsulates the feeling of a private house with the operational ability to function as a small hotel. The aim was to provide guests with a relaxed, intimate experience with a multitude of amenities and services on hand.

Located on a narrow site, the building provides a sense of solidity when viewed from the roadside. This maximises privacy and reduces noise, while emphasising the sense of arrival when greeted with sea views upon entry. The beach fronting elevation is calm, well-balanced and open to provide seamless interaction with the gardens and views out to sea. Local artisans were then used for all interior elements, to create intimate and unique spaces and features throughout the scheme.
